About

AVDL is a software and web development company that consists of a network of freelance professionals with their basis in Gibraltar on the Costa del Sol in Gibraltar. The person behind AVDL is full-stack developer Alex van der Lely who has been building software applications since the early 90s and websites and web applications since 1998. Alex has been part of development teams in Gibraltar, the Netherlands and the U.S. and worked in different companies in technical support, advisory and CTO roles.

He is a strong believer in agile development and works together with a team of software professionals, designers and other experts, both locally on the Costa del Sol and remotely to cover the diversity of fields and amass the human resources needed to deliver innovative and high quality software projects that help companies grow.

Cost effectiveness

Based in Gibraltar with its bilingual environment, close to Andalucía in Spain with its low cost of living and wages AVDL is at a competitive advantage with software companies based elsewhere in Europe. We benefit from well trained and highly qualified people at a great price and this is obviously reflected in the final price of our products and services. So if your are looking for a quality software and web development company with reasonable prices you have come to the right place.

Philosophy

AVDL is a strong believer in open source software, agile development and valid websites.

How we work

AVDL tries to use the agile development approach which emphasizes incremental delivery, team collaboration, continual planning, and continual learning. Agile focuses on keeping the process lean and creating minimum viable products that go through a number of iterations before anything is final.

NO SOCIAL NETWORKS?

Sorry, the icons look great and almost seem compulsory but we are not engaged in any social networks. Although AVDL highly recommends its customers to engage in the social networks for certain market segments and age groups we ourselves do not post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Youtube.

A note on social networks from Harvard Business Review:

Social platforms are still reporting robust growth — yes, even Facebook — despite a growing chorus of opposition. Social conversation continues to shape everything from culture to the media cycle to our most intimate relationships. And we now spend more time than ever on our phones, with endless scrolling through our social feeds being a chief reason why.
But dig a little deeper, and a more nuanced picture emerges about social media users today that has important implications for the ways in which brands reach customers. Specifically, when you look at who is — and more importantly, who is not — driving the growth and popularity of social platforms, a key demographic appears to be somewhat in retreat: young people. For example, 2019 findings from Edison Research and Triton Digital show social media usage overall among Americans 12 to 34 years old across several platforms has either leveled off or is waning, while 2019 research from Global Web Index suggests that the amount of time millennial and Gen Z audiences spend on many social platforms is either flat, declining, or not rising as greatly as it has in years’ past.
